Archbishop Thomas Wenski announced today that Pope Benedict XVI, has elevated seven priests to Monsignors for the Archdiocese of Miami. Among the seven is one of the seminary's longtime faithful professors, now Monsignor Juan Quijano. Msgr. Quijano has taught moral theology to the future priests of the State of Florida for 20 years and is highly regarded by all for his 40 years of priestly service. Three of the other new Monsignori are alumni of SVdP including a member of the first graduating class, Msgr. James Fetscher; the Vicar General, Msgr. Chanel Jeanty; and the Rector of the college seminary, Msgr. Roberto Garza.

In addition to the Miami Monsignors, the Archbishop announced that our rector was also honored with the title of Monsignor. Rev. Msgr. Toups, a priest of the Diocese of St. Petersburg, will be officially invested on February 8th at Vespers for our annual Friends of the Seminary. "I wish to thank Archbishop Wenski, Chancellor of the Seminary, my own Ordinary, Bishop Lynch, and the bishops of the Board of Trustees for their kindness in bestowing the honor of the title of Monsignor upon me. As I receive this honor, I realize that I bear it on behalf of the whole seminary community." Rev. Msgr. Toups continued, "Msgr. Quijano is very deserving of this honor for his many years of quiet and faithful service to the Seminary and the Archdiocese of Miami – he is a true son of the Church."
