Annual Gala a Huge Success

St. Vincent de Paul Seminary celebrated their annual Friends of the Seminary (FOS) event with gratitude and great success on Friday evening, October 18, 2019. Some 330 attendees enjoyed a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski and the Bishops of Florida and Georgia.

Following Mass, we took time to honor two friends with the St. Vincent de Paul Award for their exemplary dedication to our mission: Msgr. Jude O’Doherty and Mother Adela Galindo, SCTJM. They both live the charism of St. Vincent de Paul in their love of our Catholic faith, love of the poor, and zeal for holy vocations.

The night was possible thanks to the support of our chairpersons, Rich and Melissa Delgado from the Diocese of Palm Beach. Their love for the seminary and enthusiasm fueled the evening through a reception and a spirited dinner with a live and silent auction. There were over 100 of our Seminarians who served the formal dinner and who truly add the magic and joy to the evening.

In the end, the seminary realized one of our most successful FOS events with funds raised to support our core mission to prepare these seminarians as shepherds after the Heart of Christ for our parishes and your families. A heartfelt thank you to all of our sponsors, auction donors, attendees and volunteers whose generosity and dedication to the seminary are second to none! In addition, 20% of the proceeds ($20,000) from the live and silent auction, was dedicated to the Archdiocese of Nassau in the Bahamas for relief efforts for those devastated by hurricane Dorian.

10th Annual Joe-Paddy Festival

It was a spectacular evening on March 14th, as St. Vincent’s hosted its 10th annual Joe-Paddy Festival, a major fundraiser celebrating the feast days of St. Joseph and St. Patrick. “Any time you can fill up a tent with a thousand people who come out and support the seminary says a lot about their faith and hope for the future of the church,” said Msgr. David Toups, Rector/President of St. Vincent’s. “Likewise, whenever people come here, they experience the faith, hope and normalcy of our seminarians.” We thank our supporters, the community businesses and volunteers who make this event successful.

Faithful Friends Support St. Vincent’s Mission at Annual Gala

Faithful Friends Support St. Vincent’s Mission at Annual Gala It was a sold-out crowd on Friday, October 12th, as more than 360 gathered to celebrate and support the annual Friends of the Seminary Gala. We are so grateful for the tremendous support of Jeff and Velén Thompson, from the Diocese of St. Petersburg who chaired the event.

The evening began in St. Vincent’s Chapel with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski with the Bishops of Florida and Georgia. After Mass, the St. Vincent de Paul Award was given to Very Reverend Arthur Proulx in recognition for the witness of his life as a pastor and spiritual director; a living

testimony to the priesthood and our patron St. Vincent de Paul. Mr. Robert Shircliff was also the recipient of the award in recognition for his generous service to the Diocese of St. Augustine, Catholic education, the poor, and for his love of the priesthood.

Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres followed by a formal dinner, served by our seminarians. Both the silent and live auctions were a tremendous success.

A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, auction donors and attendees whose generosity contributed to this year's event. Twenty percent of our auction proceeds went to support the Diocese of Pensacola/Tallahassee as two-thirds of the diocese was severely impacted by Hurricane Michael.

New Academic Year Begins

Students Return to Campus

The new academic year kicked off after two weeks of orientation and retreat, on Sunday, August 26th, as the seminary community celebrated opening Mass. After dinner, the official inauguration of this new academic year, the Convivium Academicum, took place. Faculty member, Msgr. Stephen Bosso gave the evening's address, ushering in the new academic year, a year dedicated to the theme, Jesus Christ is Lord! A celebration followed honoring Msgr. Bosso for the 40th Anniversary of his Priesthood and 33 years of his service to the seminary.

This year we have 113 seminarians enrolled, 7 are new pre-theologians, and 17 are first year theologians. We ask that you continue to keep the seminarians, faculty and staff of St. Vincent's in your prayers, as we keep you in ours.

Ordination of thirteen seminarians to the Transitional Diaconate

On Saturday, April 14, in St. Joan of Arc Church in Boca Raton, Bishop Felipe Estévez from the Diocese of St. Augustine celebrated the ordination of thirteen seminarians to the Transitional Diaconate, with more than 1000 family members, friends, clergy and seminarians. As newly ordained transitional deacons, these men will be assigned to local parishes where they will exercise their ministry as deacons on weekends during their final year of formation. Among other duties, they will be able to preach, perform baptisms, and witness marriages, as well as preside over wakes and funerals. Congratulations and prayers for the ordinands:

Joe-Paddy Festival

The 2018 Joe-Paddy Festival drew in quite a crowd. Annual Fr. O'Malley Invitational Basketball Tournament

This past weekend, eleven seminarians and three faculty members, travelled to Mundelein Seminary in Illinois, to compete in the Annual Fr. O'Malley Invitational Basketball Tournament. In its 18th year, the tournament hosts 16 seminary teams from around the country. It was an exciting weekend for the seminary community as our team took 1st place.

St. Vincent's was represented well at the Tough Mudder in Central Florida

For the sixth year in a row, St. Vincent's was represented well at the Tough Mudder in Central Florida. This 10-12 mile, military-style obstacle course is a true test of mental and physical endurance. It is not a race, but a challenge that revolves around teamwork and camaraderie. Congratulations to our three teams, 18 seminarians total, who completed the course in the record time of 3 1/2 hours!!!

Sold-out crowd on Friday, October 2Oth

It was a sold-out crowd on Friday, October 2Oth, as over 350 gathered to celebrate and support the annual Friends of the Seminary Gala. We are so grateful for the tremendous support of two lovely couples from the Diocese of St. Augustine who chaired the event: Kevin and Debbie English and Sam and Diane Foley.

The evening began in St. Vincent’s Chapel with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski with all of the Bishops of Florida, Savannah, and even Haiti (11 total). After Mass, the St. Vincent de Paul Award was given to Msgr. Michael Muhr in recognition for the witness of his life as a pastor and spiritual director; a living testimony to the priesthood and our patron St. Vincent de Paul. Mrs. Lorraine Sabatella was also the recipient of the Award in recognition of her historic service to the Diocese of Palm Beach since its inception, and for her love for the priesthood and in particular of our seminary community.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception followed by a formal dinner, served by our seminarians. Both the silent and live auctions were a tremendous success.

A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, auction donors and attendees whose generosity contributed to this year's event. Ten percent of our proceeds will go to support those who have suffered so much in the previous months in the three dioceses of our state most affected by the hurricanes (the Archdiocese of Miami, the Diocese of Venice, the Diocese of St. Augustine and Puerto Rico.)

St. Vincent's Diaconate Ordination

St. Vincent's Diaconate Ordination took place Saturday, April 1st at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Boca Raton. Bishop Gregory Parkes, a St. Vincent’s alumnus and Bishop of the Diocese of St. Petersburg celebrated the ordination of twelve seminarians to the transitional diaconate with more than 800 family members, friends, clergy and seminarians, More than 4,200 supporters watched the ordination in real time through our live feed. Thank you to all who participated.

On Friday, October 14th, over 315 gathered at the annual Friends of the Seminary Gala. It was without exception the most successful and inspirational Friends to date. We are so grateful for Chairperson, Dr. Michaela Scott and her committee of Vero Beach friends who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the event.

The evening began in St. Vincent’s Chapel with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Thomas Wenski and the Bishops of Florida and Georgia. Following Mass, the St. Vincent de Paul Award was given to Msgr. Keith Brennan in recognition for the witness of his life as a pastor, rector and administrator. The late, Robert Grudzinski was also the recipient of the Award in recognition for the witness of his life as a father, grandfather, and as a champion for promoting vocations to the priesthood.

Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and silent auction before sitting for a formal dinner prepared by our kitchen and served by our seminarians.

On behalf of the seminary community and our Chairperson, Dr. Michaela Scott, we are so appreciative for all who participated. Please continue to keep St. Vincent’s in your prayers.

The Way, The Truth, and the Life.

On Saturday, February 6, St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary hosted its annual young adult retreat. The theme of this year's retreat was "The Way, The Truth, and the Life." 365 young adults from across the state of Florida attended the event.

The retreat featured talks by Arleen Spencely, Fr. Rich Pagano, and Deacon Dustin Feddon, Ph.D., small group sessions throughout the day, and a praise and worship concert led by the seminarians. Every retreatant received a book, rosary, t-shirt, and a Catholic resources handout. The Knights of Columbus and Office of Vocations of the Diocese of Palm Beach also participated in the retreat.

Following Mass and dinner, the Cardinal gave a public presentation to more than 300 on "The Joys and Challenges of Priesthood Today."

Each year we honor the many cultures represented here at St. Vincent's among the seminarians, faculty and staff. This year over 15 tables representing different countries or regions showcased their traditional foods and beverages. Our seminary community enjoys eating and drinking their way around the world!

34 Tough Mudders on Campus

Grueling 10-12 mile obstacle course

On Saturday, November 7th, 34 seminarians and faculty members completed the Tough Mudder, a grueling 10-12 mile obstacle course geared toward pushing the limits of physical strength and mental grit. For the past four years, priests and seminarians from St. Vincent de Paul have participated and each year the participants choose a soldier, wounded or killed to whom they dedicate their efforts.

Tough Mudder has donated about 3 million dollars to the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports returning Vets and provides teams of wounded warriors for the events. We are so proud of our men!

Soccer, Prayer, and a Community Dinner

Twice a year, St. John Vianney College Seminary in Miami and St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary come together for an Interseminary Day. The men compete in a game of soccer, celebrate Evening Prayer, and enjoy a community dinner together.

St. Vincent de Paul hosted the first of this year's meetings on October 23rd. We are very proud to have emerged the victors of the soccer match and look forward to our second meeting in January.

Awards, Reception, and Formal Dinner

The torrential down pours didn't prevent a record number of guests from gathering on Friday, October 16, in support of this year's Friends of the Seminary Gala. The event that sold out two weeks prior, broke records for attendance and funds raised.

Most Rev. Thomas G. Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, celebrated mass in St. Vincent's Chapel along with the Bishops of the Board of Trustees. After mass, the St. Vincent de Paul awards were presented to Msgr. Vincent Kelly, for witness of his life as an educator, administrator and shepherd of souls; a living testimony to the priesthood and his patron St. Vincent de Paul. Sr. Yamile Saieh, FMA was recognized for her witness to the "Joy of the Gospel: as an educator, mentor and and encourager of immigrant communities throughout her life as a Daughter of Mary Help of Christians.

Following the awards, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and formal dinner. It was a beautiful evening and many thanks go out to David and Robyn Diaz, from the Archdiocese of Miami who did a stellar job chairing the event.
