Donor-Advised Funds
You have already set the money aside for good work. This is one of the places it can go.
A donor-advised fund lets you take your charitable deduction in the year you fund the account and then recommend grants over time, as causes come to your attention and as your convictions settle. If you hold a fund at Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, the Catholic Community Foundation, your diocesan foundation, or any other sponsor, you can recommend a grant to the seminary in a few minutes.
Your fund sponsor can confirm the process for your particular account.
Three steps
STEP 01
Search by our Federal Tax ID, 59-1028326, rather than by name. Our legal name and the name most people know us by are not the same, and searching by name is where most donors get stuck.
STEP 02
Enter the amount and, if your sponsor offers the option, a purpose. Choose to have your name and address shared with us rather than giving anonymously, unless anonymity is what you intend.
STEP 03
Call (561) 623-8017 or email development@svdp.edu so we can watch for the grant and thank you when it lands.
These are the only details required to find and pay us.
Search by Federal Tax ID. It is the fastest way to find us and it avoids the several similarly named organizations that share our patron.
Good to know
Because you have already taken your deduction, a grant cannot pay for anything that returns value to you. Gala tickets, sponsorship benefits, and tables at an event fall outside what a grant may cover. Formation, the annual fund, and the endowment are all appropriate purposes. If you would like to attend the gala and also make a grant, we can simply handle those as two separate things.
The rules governing grants and pledges have changed over the years and they differ by sponsor. If you intend a grant to satisfy a commitment you have already made, please tell us, and we will record it in whatever way your sponsor requires.
Most sponsors let you name one or more charities to receive what remains in your fund after your lifetime. Naming the seminary as a successor beneficiary is one of the simplest planned gifts available to you, and it requires no attorney and no change to your will.
If you would like to support formation year over year, most sponsors will let you schedule a recurring grant. It is a quiet and steady way to give, and it means a great deal to our budgeting.
Our details do not change. If you receive an email or a telephone call giving different payment details for the seminary, please contact the Office of Development at (561) 623-8017 before recommending a grant. We would always rather answer that call than see your generosity go astray.
